Beauty Woven into Brokenness

For about a year I have been following Jenny Simmons, the lead singer of the band Addison Road, at jennysimmons.com.  In January, I stumbled upon the quote at the top of this blog and was captured by this idea of beauty woven into brokenness.  We live in a world that is broken surrounded by people who are broken...and yet we pretend that the beauty is all that exists.  We make ourselves out to be happier, richer, and more powerful than we are out of fear, disappointment, lack of trust, and a variety of other reasons.  Very seldom do we take the time to show our souls in their natural state, a state of brokenness.  On his live album, Derek Webb talks about how it would be freeing for us if all of our failures (sin) were broadcast on the nightly news for all the world to see.  We wouldn't be able to hide; we would have to be real.  This is where the beauty fuses into the brokenness of our lives.  God has woven this beauty into the world in which we are temporarily placed.  It is not its own component of our lives because it is the brokenness that creates the beauty.  Hindsight makes this truth clear and yet we still attempt to hide the brokenness from ourselves and from others.  I want this blog to be a place where the beauty and brokenness co-exist and where truth replaces the facade.  I hope that you will enjoy taking this journey with me...
